What is Independent Living for Seniors?
Independent living for seniors in townhomes does not involve licensing or regulation. What sets the Townhomes apart on properties for seniors such as Ardmore Village is that they are set up to create a sense of community for people 55 years old and up. Seniors enjoy their independence and get in on senior field trips, on-premise activities and projects, shopping excursions, and planned community events.
At a time in life when people often become isolated, there are numerous benefits to taking part in a seniors-only setting, as follows:
Social Benefits
Our minds stay sharper and more engaged when we take part in conversations with others several times per day. Living on memories of treasured days gone by in younger years isn’t healthy. Seniors need to remain engaged with the world to share wisdom and life experience. There are new experiences to be had and fun times to be enjoyed.
Physical Benefits
Social interaction leads to a lot more physical movement than living a solitary existence. When people visit you, for example, a lot of activity goes into preparation. Being a host or hostess means that you’ll want to offer food and drink, perhaps visit your patio, or get out a photo or some other memento that may be of interest to the visitors. You may even want to take out fine dishes you save for special occasions. Compared to being home alone watching television for the same span of time, the physical advantages are clear.
Mental Benefits
It requires a certain amount of concentration and focus to interact with other people. Sociable conversations can become difficult if we get out of practice too long. It helps us to maintain our mental wits when we are discussing various topics and keeping our minds active.
Emotional Benefits
People are with us in all of the high moments of our lives. Without friends or family to share life with, getting down and depressed can come too easily. Being valued and valuing others makes life worth living more than anything else.
